CELLspace Enters Puberty
March 17, 2008
marker on paper, 8" x 6"

Jonathan reminisces about the early days of CELLspace at a brunch celebrating the art collective's 12th birthday. He quoted co-founder Paradox's words, "Dally on abstract spells no longer," while telling a story about how a group of puppeteers first got the lease for the warehouse while Tyson, of a much younger artist collective down the road, Million Fishes, listens in.

This is the drawing of the week for March 17-23, 2008.

Joshua and Mabel draw their impressions of CELLspace
October 14, 2006
photograph of a creative experience

I brought some markers and sketchbooks to CELLspace's 10th anniversary party. It seemed only right, at a party celebrating this arts collective, to try and engage people in some creativity.

Joshua Short and Mable Negrete, who are both very inventive collaborative artists - I mean really, check out their websites and see all the cool projects they've done, graciously spent some time drawing their impressions of CELLspace.

I've got a neat stack of very varied visual responses which I will be incorporating into one painting on canvas of "Our CELLspace."

Circus Contraption Amazes at CELLspace
February 19, 2005
acrylic on canvas, 3' x 3.5'

Circus Contraption performs the "Grand American Traveling Dime Museum" at CELLspace in August of 2004.

The music of this one-ring circus is fantastic (the troupe built around the band), the stunts are dupefying, and the humor is ripe. And they're all wonderful people.

This image is not a great reproduction of the painting - I'll work on taking a better photo.

From a photo by Danielle Barnett, Mischief Photo, of one of the B-girls from the Sisterz of the Underground. The photo was left over from her exhibit at Lady Fest. She offered to donate any money from sales to the Sisterz of the Underground. I'll do the same.
