Impressions of the Tenderloin
May 14, 2008
collaborative, mixed media on paper, 24" x 30"

with painting by Melody L., Kaiulani W., stencils by Micco F., photography by Ben Chun, and writing and drawings by other students.

This painting is part of a group artistic exploration of San Francisco that I have been working on at Galileo Academy. Students ideas about the Tenderloin Neighborhood and parts of SOMA are collaged together into this cityscape.

One student wrote, as part of an affiliated 'zine project, "i have no problem walking through sixth street. i always walk by and no on gives me trouble. i know a few people from sixth street and its not that bad. and all this stuff about TL being violent is untrue. if you don't mess with people, they don't mess with you. the beefing stuff with TL and sixth street don't even matter cuz its not like they stop you and ask you where your from."

Canto XXXIV of Dante's Inferno
November 18, 2007
mixed media on paper, 30" diameter

A painting with collage Dante Alighieri's Inferno, Canto 34. I illustrated this chapter in concert with Ms. Moffett's 2nd period class. Since Dante referenced many figures from his popular culture, we sought to use contemporary figures in our illustrations. I decided to dip into modern mythology in depicting this image of the final inner circle of hell where those who have betrayed their master are punished. Where Dante described Brutus, Cassius and Judas Iscariot being punished, the three-headed Lucifer in my painting is chewing on Darth Vader and Saruman, from the Lord of the Rings.

pile of paintings on paper
November 28, 2006
photograph

I'm spending time today photographing and posting a bunch of old acrylic paintings on paper. They are all 24 inches long by 18-19" wide on watercolor paper or a thick bristol vellum.

These paintings are all a great bargain at $40 - $100 each. You don't need to frame them - you can put binder clips on the corners and hook those onto nails. These are also cheap to ship in a tube.

Contact me if you're interested in buying any art on TheArtDontStop.org. Gifts can be exchangeable and public school teachers get a discount.

A herd of ducklings we saw in the Kerala Backwaters of India. The ducklings eat the insects from the rice fields and then helped fertilize the crops.
