The SF Symphony Performs Scheherazade Part 1
marker on paper, 8” x 5.5”, May 25, 2023
I saw the SF Symphony and drew what I saw and how it felt. These drawings come as a pair.
5 sketches, each marker on paper, 5.5” x 8”
Each of these drawings was created live during the show at Cafe du Nord.
I didn’t know there would be an opening band until we saw the merch table. I’m really glad that Friko was there to give such a great performance. Bendigo Fletcher was the headliner. I captured one sketch of the whole band, one drawing of Ryan Anderson on his own playing harmonic, one where Anderson is playing banjo, and one focused on guitarist Andrew Shupert.
These are sold as a set. Display them together or give art gifts to your friends.
4 sketches, each marker on paper, 5.5” x 8”
Each of these drawings was created live during the show (in the dark) in real time at Cafe du Nord. Maybe you can feel the rhythms of the music in the scribbles.
Two of the drawings are of the opening band, “waveform*,” one shows the headliner, Runner, and the other focuses on the bassist for Runner.
These are sold as a set. Display them together or give art gifts to your friends.
3 sketches, each marker on paper, 5.5” x 8”
Each of these drawings was created live during the show from the balcony section. One of these is a fully realized composition and the other two are rough sketches of an energetic performance.
These are sold as a set. Display them together or give art gifts to your friends.

If you log on the the park service website early in the morning, day after day, you may be lucky enough to snag a reservation at one of the picturesque cabins sitting on a bluff above a beach in Marin. Steep Ravine really is a magical place.
This was also a chance for me to try my scribbly style in a beautiful landscape outside the city.
*Note that because of the size, this painting will cost $100 to ship. Pick up in Bernal Heights, San Francisco is free.

acrylic on canvas, 18” x 24”, 2021
This canvas started as one of my election week paintings from 2020. I sat in Holly Park processing the stress of an national election whose results were still uncertain. In that first iteration (which you can see and read about here), I included the words, “FEEL that nervous ANGRY ENERGY HARNESS [and] Unleash That CREATIVE POWER.” A year later, I decided that the painting would be better without the words - but those feelings are still in there.
Now, you can see the the view of Twin Peaks in the background.
acrylic and mixed media collage on canvas, 9” x 12”, 2021
As an educator, I teach about using art to access our emotions and using our emotions to create meaningful art. The pandemic has been tough for all of us. This painting is an artifact of my own process as I ask, “How do we hold this?”
acrylic on canvas, 12” x 12”
It was years ago that I first painted this canvas in class with a live model. The composition was always pretty good - with another student in the class peaking out from behind their easel - but it felt a bit stale. Now I’ve revived this painting with brighter colors and a bit more life overall.
As with all of my work, the sides are painted black so this will look nice on the wall without a frame.
acrylic on canvas, 8” x 8”, 2021
One of a series of small paintings of beers, except this one is all background and no beer.

What does the Flux Capacitor look like when it is fully fluxing?
acrylic on canvas, 8” x 8”, 2021
The Flux Capacitor is what makes time travel possible.

The sides include artifacts from the 2016 workshop where the roots of this painting were created.
This painting began using art created by after school teachers in a workshop I taught on behalf of the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and their Families. The participants did some scribbling and cut out shapes to represent the feelings and values they wanted to offer the young people they worked with. The composition evolved over time as I tried to make it all work as a painting, but the sentiments remain.

This is a painting of my studio companion, a succulent growing in an old teapot. I rarely do still life painting.

You provide 1-2 photographs and Todd will create a 4” x 6” custom drawing to send to someone awesome. When you purchase, you will be asked questions about your order, but you can also email Todd to clarify the details.
You will also be asked how weird you want your custom art to be on a scale from 1-5 where “1” is a “Straightforward pretty accurate scribbly marker drawing” and “5” is “Go crazy with these images, let’s see what comes out.” Whatever you choose, the combination of your ideas and my drawings will be a fun collaborative process.
Choose between sending the drawing as a postcard ($40), sending it in an envelope ($42), or putting it in a black wood frame ($45).
Prices for the envelope or postcard option includes postage. For a framed drawing, select “Priority mail for framed 4" x 6" drawings” when checking out to pay $10 for shipping (or choose to “pick the art up in San Francisco”).
The frames are from Ikea. They are simple wood frames, painted black, with glass. They come with holes and a peg that lets them stand in portrait or landscape orientations or could be hung from a small nail in the wall. The frames are slightly smaller than 4” x 6” with openings that measure 3.375” x 5.375”.

acrylic on canvas, 40” x 30”, 2011-2023
This painting revisits a subject I tried in high school, to create a picture where it’s unclear whether we’re seeing a giant ant or just a close up view of one. With this attempt I added an exploration of fractals - patterns that appear the same no matter how much you zoom in or out.
After a over a decade, I put this back on the easel and added some new details.
This can be shipped domestically for $100.

This is a manic mega meta sketchnote representing a year of meetings that I participated in as an arts partner and advocate for arts education with the San Francisco Unified School District. I collaged and copied notes from the meetings onto this canvas which now serves as a documentation and artifact of my thinking and reflection. It includes portraits of many people who work passionately for and with the school district to make sure all students get the most comprehensive education possible.
Stay tuned for an article about all the people and stories in this painting.

3 marker and pencil drawings on paper, drawn in real time at the show.
We arrive hours early to get seats on the hill to see the Flaming Lips at the final Stern Grove Festival concert of the year. I made these three drawings at the show to capture what it felt like to be there.
Each drawing is a standard 8” x 10” size, so will fit in many standard frames - or can be hung with a magnet on your refrigerator.
